This is the game that started it off for the whole Lufia series. Lufia and the Fortress of Doom isn't hailed as the best in the series, but it got enough popularity for the next and most popular game to be made for the series. This game also features the character in which the series is named after: 10 years before the actual game takes place, the nameless hero and Roman (the inkeeper) come across a young and seemingly orphaned girl by the name of Lufia. Although Roman takes her in the the hero quickly befriends her, not much is known about the girl, and when the Sinistrals revive 10 years later, the mysteries about her slowly begin to unravel. (Fortunately, the ending is a lot happier than what it first seems to be.)

FofD is a fairly straightforward and classic RPG. The battle system for this game is agility-based and can be fairly confusing and frustrating to someone who has never played on this type of battle system before. However, it is really the only challenge that needs to be overcome within this game, and once you get the hang of it, it becomes easy.
