Guidelines for Submissions
It is vital to remember that the majority of The Ancient Cave is driven by its contributors and fans. Although the site doesn't get much of anything new (and I'm changing chat and forum software/servers more than I do my underwear at time), I'm always happy to take new submissions. With that said, if you've got a picture, fanfic, MIDI, whatever, e-mail it to me. There's nothing to odd that I'm willing to take. (Hey, if I accept a picture of Lufia where she has wings then it's obvious that I'll take almost anything!)
The best ways to send in submissions is by email, to musicman (at) ancientcave (dot) com or musicman2059 (at) gmail (dot) com . You can post fics, lists, additions to the "You Know You've Played Too Much Lufia When..." list or anything that's text at the forum if you want, but it might take me a bit longer to get it on the site. (I'm lazy ;) )
However, being that the site is both fan-driven and on a site meant for everyone, there are a few guidelines that I have put in place and a few things you should know.
1. ALL image submissions (both fanart and screenshots) are now handled using the Image Gallery. Although this system requires registration for security purposes, if you wish to remain anonymous, you may send the image via e-mail stating that you wish to remain anonymous, and the image will be uploaded for you. All images submitted via the image gallery are subject to validation before they are added to the gallery.
2. Posted material is subject to the availability of current resources. The site currently has decent resources, with 300 megs of space and 15 gigs of bandwidth, but you never know when this site will just become so much. Chances are that whatever you submit will get on, since right now TAC has more than it needs, but you never know.
3. If you are submitting a text-based submission, whatever you see on the index page will be displayed with your submission. Of course, if you really have a problem with links to the other areas of this site, then there might be a problem. Fortunately, TAC is ad-free, although I could be mean and add my host's referral program banner, and is funded by only myself... and anyone who donates money to my PayPal account. ;)
4. NO ADULT-RATED MATERIAL! You have been warned. To me, this isn't just bad taste in my opinion, but it's not allowed on this server. PERIOD. Any attempt to send adult-rated material to me will be treated as an attempt to terminate TAC's hosting account, the e-mail address will be blocked, and the sender's IP will be banned from the site.
5. Please send only original work. If you are sending the work of someone else on their behalf, please carbon-copy (CC) the message to the original artist, or at least tell me the submitter's e-mail address so I can confirm that they want it submitted.
6. TAC will not accept submissions that...
a) May contain a malicious script. Yes, it is possible to infect a computer with a virus through a JPEG image file. The last thing I want is someone's computer to be infected by a virus via a file that originated from here. It just wouldn't make me look good.
b) Has the extension .EXE or .BAT, since these file types are the most notorious for carrying malicious scripts.
c) Is a ripped music file, specifically MP3, since it is against the host's terms. It doesn't matter if it's an original work or not, it's not allowed. If this were my server, then it would be okay, but it's not. People who send an MP3 for submission will get a friendly warning from me stating that they're not allowed on the server. Try again, and don't be surprised if you find your IP blocked from the site.
d) Is an archive (.ZIP, .RAR, etc.) containing any of the forbidden file types mentioned above. Submissions should be kept as small as possible in order to fully utilize TAC's resources. Submissions can be sent to either musicman (at) ancientcave (dot) com or musicman2059 (at) gmail (dot) com.
Alternatively, you are always welcome to post your works at the forum as an attachment to a post. Just follow the simple instructions given by the script. (And please make sure you post it in the right forum. :P)
